Asset Configuration Manager
Distinguish the approved equipment configuration from what is actually installed.
Before you start
MAS learning path. Match the component documentation to your installed release and maintenance build before configuring it.
- ACM available with training models and configuration-managed assets.
- A small parent assembly with two example positions and known allowed items.

01 · Basics — Understand the building blocks
ACM models configuration-managed assets using models, build positions and allowable components. The model defines the permitted structure; the asset records describe the actual installation.
The Build Data Interpreter evaluates configuration and reports issues. A physical part fitting a position does not establish that the recorded configuration is valid.
Topics in this series

02 · Configuration — Work through the setup
Use a training environment and match the actions to the IBM guide for your installed build.
- Inspect a training model and its positions, permitted items and quantity rules.
- Create or select a training asset based on that model.
- Record an allowed component in a position using the supported installation process.
- Run the documented validation process and review the resulting configuration status.
- In a disposable copy, create a quantity or allowed-item mismatch and inspect the reported issue. Restore the valid configuration afterward.
03 · Practical example
Fictional teaching example
A fictional compressor assembly permits one motor in its motor position. Recording two installed motors is a configuration error even if both serial numbers exist as valid assets.
04 · Practice and verify
Compare the model, current asset configuration and validation findings for a valid and invalid installation.
Expected result
The invalid case produces a traceable configuration issue, while the corrected case satisfies the model rules.
Common mistakes
- Treating the model as a list of current assets.
- Declaring validity before the configuration check finishes.
05 · Advanced concepts
Explore variant applicability, component history, meters and maintenance requirements. Keep model revisions separate from physical installation events.
