Maximo Aviation

Understand aircraft/component structure and configuration-controlled maintenance.

Before you start

MAS learning path. Match the component documentation to your installed release and maintenance build before configuring it.

  • Aviation installed and a training aircraft/component model.
  • A fictional serialized assembly and an approved training maintenance requirement.

01 · Basics — Understand the building blocks

Aviation uses configuration-managed assets and related maintenance information. The same serialised component can have its own history while installed within a parent assembly.

Configuration validation compares an installed structure with the applicable model. Maintenance completion and configuration validity are different checks.

Topics in this series

  • Asset and component structure
  • Model applicability
  • Installation history
  • Maintenance context
  • Configuration assurance

02 · Configuration — Work through the setup

Use a training environment and match the actions to the IBM guide for your installed build.

  1. Identify the training parent asset, model and installed components.
  2. Inspect the applicable build positions and component identifiers.
  3. Trace one component removal/installation through the supported training process.
  4. Review component history, associated maintenance information and configuration validation.
  5. Compare the recorded structure before and after the change and investigate any BDI findings.

03 · Practical example

Fictional teaching example

A fictional aircraft training model receives a replacement component. Its serial number changes, but the build position remains the same. The exercise traces both the component history and the parent configuration.

04 · Practice and verify

Create a before/after configuration sheet with model, position, serial number, maintenance reference and validation result.

Expected result

The replacement is traceable and the resulting recorded configuration is valid for the selected model.

Common mistakes

  • Losing removed-component history.
  • Confusing a closed work order with an independently verified configuration.

05 · Advanced concepts

Extend into maintenance programme applicability, meters and work packages using the exact Aviation release documentation and local approved processes.
