Maximo Renewables
Investigate renewable generation losses before selecting maintenance actions.
Before you start
MAS learning path. Match the component documentation to your installed release and maintenance build before configuring it.
- Renewables available with a training portfolio.
- Synthetic actual/expected generation, weather context and availability information.

01 · Basics — Understand the building blocks
Renewables supports performance analysis across renewable energy assets. Comparing output alone is insufficient when weather, availability and operating constraints differ.
A performance loss is an observation to investigate. A maintenance action should address an identified cause rather than every low-output interval.
Topics in this series
- Portfolio and equipment
- Telemetry quality
- Expected versus actual output
- Loss investigation
- Maintenance feedback
02 · Configuration — Work through the setup
Use a training environment and match the actions to the IBM guide for your installed build.
- Select a small solar or wind training population and confirm equipment identifiers.
- Review units, time zones and the expected-generation basis.
- Compare actual and expected output for a defined period.
- Separate equipment downtime, operating restrictions and unexplained loss in the analysis.
- Assign an investigation to one actionable issue and trace its maintenance handoff.
03 · Practical example
Fictional teaching example
Two fictional solar inverters produce different daily energy. One has less available sunlight in the sample; the other has a confirmed outage. Only the second comparison directly supports the outage investigation.
04 · Practice and verify
Prepare a loss analysis for three periods: normal, constrained and unavailable. Document the evidence and chosen action.
Expected result
Each reported loss has a stated comparison basis and category; missing data does not masquerade as equipment failure.
Common mistakes
- Comparing unlike weather conditions.
- Opening maintenance work for every production shortfall.
05 · Advanced concepts
Explore portfolio benchmarking, asset hierarchy and the feedback from completed maintenance to performance monitoring.
